Website tweaks

So, I knew all along that I’d need to do some re-branding and website tweaks after I finished Souls of Astraeus, but it came along a bit quicker than I expected. I realized shortly after I had launched the book that I’d want to point all future web traffic to a consolidated domain that represented me *and* all of my books, rather than a separate domain *and* website for each book.

Pardon our mess. Well, actually, everything’s finished.

I already had the jeramygoble.com domain, (obviously, as it’s where this blog lives), so I just changed my graphics and such to direct folks to jeramygoble.com.  I’ve tweaked my main website to reflect the new focus, (away from soulsofastraeus.com), changed some links and such, and I’m all set!  Also, I simply set soulsofastraeus.com to redirect to jeramygoble.com, so, the tweaks and changes should be seamless and slick!

Schedule craziness

Whew! This schedule craziness has been driving me insane. I literally feel like I have had to fight to get to my blog tonight to provide an update.  After being VERY good with my previously announced posting schedule of Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, I haven’t been able to post in almost a month.  I truuuuuuuuly plan on not letting such a long lapse again.

For some general good news, my wife and I have had mostly a fun and busy past month.  We had a big July 4th shindig with my family, and then we had some old college buddies come and hang out.  It was great to spend time with them, catch up, and we even went tubing while they were here.  So, so, fun…

Getting the studio back up

I spent most of the day today getting my studio back up, and I had a blast working on it.  I didn’t finish, but I got a lot done.  I was able to hang some canvasses I had made of Jonathan Powell’s artwork for Souls of Astraeus.  It looks really good and I’ll get a picture up tomorrow of the progress.  I’ve missed having my writing, composing, recording and mixing cave since we moved, but we’re about settled in and the studio’s about there as well.  The audiobook planning is coming along nicely and I hope to get started on that fairly soon as well.  Yay!

Beefing up blog optimization

I spent some time considering blog optimization and have been researching and downloading a few WordPress plug-ins over the past few days.  I grabbed a few plug-ins to help with search engine optimization, so folks searching for various things might stumble upon something relevant.  There are some other things to help folks share posts they like, and some other back-end stuff such as automated database back-ups and page caching to help things move and load quicker!

Wooooo!  It’s mostly boring stuff, but fun stuff for me behind the scenes.  And, and if the blog ever gets any kind of meaningful traffic, it’ll all help!

Posting schedule

I’ve been thinking about whether or not I should try and stick to a regular posting schedule.  Attempting to post daily doesn’t seem very realistic, and probably isn’t necessary.  If I try to do that, I might end up posting about what my wife and I had for dinner on some random day…

So, I think I’m going to start off with attempting a Sunday, Wednesday and Friday posting schedule and add or subtract from there.

Well, that didn’t take long…

I decided to go ahead and get rid of the forums, (linked to originally from the main website, like this blog is).  When I was making the forums, I was working too hard to come up with topics for it anyway.  All I really wanted was a way to talk with folks, to share things, and interact, about just a few different topics… Books, music, and technology, generally.  I can always add forums back to the website down the road, but for now, I think this will do, splendidly.

What? A website, forum, AND a blog?

Well yeah, for now.  I already set up and installed a forum on the website a while back, but I’m thinking of getting rid of that in lieu of this blog.  It’s quicker and slicker.  I don’t know.  We’ll see.
